Site Visits

As part of the UConn Early College Experience, the faculty coordinator and assistant coordinator, Scott Campbell and Tom Doran, conduct site visits, which can be either in-person (at the participating high school) or virtual (a mode we've used more heavily in recent years). Visits are offered for mutual enrichment purposes and not as a means to evaluate the certified instructor’s performance, although they are required for maintaining certification.

If you've received an email request for a site visit, please follow the steps below to set that up.

Virtual Visits

There are many advantages to virtual visits, not least of which is that they are far more convenient for both teachers and ECE coordinators. An even greater advantage is that they allow us to focus the visit on curriculum, student work examples, and questions the instructors wants to pursue. Most ECE teachers are excellent in-class instructors, and, usually, the more meaningful conversations have to do with ECE curriculum and the evolving practices of ENGL 1004 or 1007. To set up a virtual visit, please follow the steps below.

  1. Begin by choosing a date from the Virtual Site Visit Scheduler below.
  2. Upload instructional materials for semester/year  (you've likely done this already)
  3. Fill out the Pre-Visit & Student Work Example Upload Form (at least 24 hours before the scheduled visit)

In-Person Visits

The advantages of an actual visit to your school are obvious: we get to see and learn about your school, including its environment and students. Another advantage is that we can often talk to more than one instructor at our visit. If you want to set up a meeting with a team of teachers at your school, an in-person visit can work best for this (although virtual is possible).
But, of course, an in-person visit is a bit harder to schedule and pull off; please give us a fair amount of lead time (a few weeks, if possible). If you wish to sign up for an in-person visit, please use the On-Site Visit form below. We will contact you to discuss scheduling details and next steps.

Certified instructors are always welcome to visit a First-Year Writing course at a UConn campus. Just contact us at eceenglish@uconn.edu to arrange a visit.
